Today is July 17 and I have kept my Wardrobe Re-Fashion pledge. I have not bought any clothes. Not for myself and not for my daughters, and certainly not for anyone else. Freecycle has saved me as well as the fact that I really do not have any money to spend on frivolities. Very hard to spend money when you have none! Hahaha! I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
All you crafters and seamstresses, tailors, knitters, and DIYers…get on this website and make the pledge. www.wardroberefashion.net

Just found out about this fantastic website and it is just the thing to keep me motivated and on track. The site is called Wardrobe Re-Fashion and you have to take a pledge to make or refashion garments for a certain period of time and not buy any new garments.
Yikes, I know, what the hell am I getting myself into???? Well, I’m broke so this should be fairly easy. I just signed up today for the next round which begins July 1st. I am pledging for two months and will keep you posted on my progress.
I copied their rules for you to look at:
The Rules
1.No buying new! (handmade is excepted; So this allows for Etsy purchases etc!!) All clothing must be Recycled, Renovated, Preloved or Thrifted, or Handmade only for the term. Employment related and special needs clothing (ie sports, school), shoes and undies are excepted from the rules, although you are encouraged to have a go at making these.
2.In extreme circumstances, maybe a special event, or the worlds greatest and most amazing never to be repeated sale that you simply can not pass up, you may use the Get out of Refashionista Jail Free card. You are able to use this card once during the 2 month part of your contract; ie 1 for 2 months, 2 for 4 months etc. Of course you need to fess up on the blog and display the button!
3.You must post on the blog at least once a week to let the community know what you’ve been up to. This will not only give you brag points, but inspire and encorouge others! Of course you need to display the button on your blog and have copied the pledge in at least one post, and provide a link to your pledge under the button.4.You need to be honest and admit when you’ve fallen off the Refashionista Wagon! Go directly to Refashionista Jail, do not pass GO and do not collect $200! Apply for parole once there.
Check out their website for more info.

My pal Darlene told me about a t-shirt contest on the Lenny Lopate show. Design your own t-shirt, no rules, winner gets interviewed on their design by Isaac Mizrahi. I immediately submitted entries. I half-assed it due to lack of time but you tend to half-ass alot of things when you’re chasing a pre-schooler and toddler around, including this blog! Sorry, I promise it will get better so hang in there with me. One symptom of being a busy mama is that your brain is on permanent vacation. I used to fancy myself as someone that was pretty quick on the take and occasionally witty but my brain is full of crickets. Anyways…here they are.

I am really into lemon yellow these days…so much so that I bought quite a lot of this yellow twill. My sister-in-law, Kathy invited me to a fashion cocktail night so I decided to make myself a dress.
Let me begin by saying that my first effort, an empire waist a-line dress with batwing sleeves lined in this black and white striped cotton was a faux pas…think Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Aaack. We are all entitled to a fashion disaster every now and then, except that this girl does not do it in public.
Fortunately, I had whipped up a glorious black and white cotton skirt with a removable bustle a few days earlier. I made a sleeveless ruffle top to go with it out of the yellow twill and it was perfect. Comfortable and fabulous.
Due to how amazing this skirt looked and felt, I will be making them in many colors to sell on ABH sometime soon. Stay tuned.
